This West Springfield plaque marks the place where Hessian POWs taken prisoner at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777 encamped on their way to Boston.

This eight-point red star on homespun white linen comes from a flag once owned by Colonel Hugh Maxwell of Charlemont. Maxwell most likely kept this scrap of fabric as a remembrance of his experiences in the War.
